The
Imperial Spring Flower Egg. Made in 1895
as a gift from Czar Nicholas to the Empress
Marie Feodorovna, this strawberry red
enamel guilloché egg is decorated
with delicate gold rococo arabesques and
stands on a bowenite base banded with
crystals that, in turn, rests on rococo
arabesques joined to form the base level
of the stand.
The
egg opens from the top into two halves
and reveals the surprise, a stone studded
basket filled with white anemones and
green leaves both set with emerald green
stones. The interior of the egg is textured
gold, all metal used is gold plated.
