This incredibly exquisite and complex Egg, made in 1901, was given by Tsar Nicholas II to the Tsarina Alexandra Fedorovna for Easter 1901. It is an Egg inside the shape of an Egg. If you study it you will see that the handle of the basket, completely studded with rose cut diamonds* accented with two diamond studded ribbon bows, mimics the shape of the Egg that is used as the basket. The basket rests on the base of the handle which, in turn, connects to a pedestal of enamel guilloché in deep blue.** The pedestal is accented by loops and circlets of rose cut diamonds that direct the eye to the white enamel guilloché Egg which is overlayed with repeats of the diamond loops that extend downward in a lattice that clothes the Egg. Just above the lattice is the date 1901. Mounted in gold* moss at the open apex of the Egg are forty some odd individual flowers in varying colors of enamel guilloché. Each flower is complete unto itself, some with fronds of gold, some with with fronds of deep green enamel and several done in gold* with tiny movable buds hanging from them. The egg stands 8 1/2" high.
Other than that our reproduction is made in non-precious metals and stones the Egg is identical to the original.
Retail: $4000.00. Our price: $3599.90.
*NOTE 1: All diamonds are Austrian crystals and precious metals are gold plated sterling silver in the reproduction.
**NOTE 2: This pedestal was originally white enamel guilloché but the Egg was damaged during the Revolution and when the pedestal was repaired they were able to obliterate the damage by enameling the base in a dark color, hence the deep blue.
